Simplifying Accessibility

Articles & Presentations

CreativePro is the world’s most trusted resource for design professionals. I contribute design and accessibility content to simplify the technical complexities for designers.

From Participant to Advocate

I almost deleted the email. It looked like it was likely spam, but I was curious. I RSVP’d ‘yes’ to CreativePro’s invitation for their first-ever focus group with practicing designers. I was headed to my first CreativePro Week and intended to turn the experience into a strategic networking opportunity.

What was scheduled for an hour lasted twice as long. As we talked, I realized a recurring theme: talented designers across the country were afraid of accessibility. They knew they needed the skill but were overwhelmed by the perceived technical barriers. As a federal contractor, I designed for accessibility every day—it wasn’t a burden; it was my standard. In that room, I shifted from participant to advocate. I realized my peers didn’t need more checklists; they needed a leader to show them that designing with accessibility in mind is a benefit, not a barrier.

Fast forward four years. That initial conversation evolved into a platform where I now speak at international Design + Accessibility Summits. Both of my sessions were highlighted as Editor’s Choice picks—a validation that the field was hungry for a leader who could demystify the complex. Today, I don’t just design accessibly; I champion inclusive design at a leadership level, teaching creatives how to integrate these standards into their existing workflows without fear.

“Superb introduction to the subject. I’d go so far as to say it’s the most accessible introduction to accessibility I have ever read.”
